So what do you reckon the effects of:

a) coverage in the press and on the web

vs

b) no coverage in the press an on the web


might be?

I promise you - any behaviour that gets attention is reinforced. I'm not 
making this up. It works for children, it works for dogs, and it works 
for mobs of people.

If you want to make a difference you need to do something which ignores 
them, and diverts the attention of their would-be audience towards 
something that's a bit more useful. As it is, you're playing right into 
their hands, albeit in a relatively small way.
