I use Brighton Dental Centre up on Dyke Road by Seven Dials. They seem
to do the job pretty well. Couldn't tell you if they were any better.
They are currently accepting NHS patients. 

As far as the filling goes, it could be a white plaster like filling. A
bit like polyfilla if you will. I had one while I waited for my inlay to
be made. Only lasted 3 days though before it fell out. You'll be
surprised at how quickly dentists do work. I had a pulpectomy on Tuesday
and he'd finished it before I thought he'd taken the inlay off.
