wow good wired blog - Nike only paid $35 for their swoosh - that girl must
be a lot more gutted than the twitter designer (unless twitter does end up
taking over the world and selling top suggested follower slots for millions
[1]) - but thems the apples with this type of licensing...
Personally I like crowdsourcing - the x factor of design ;)

As a designer, my gut reaction is to have the whole idea, from a
business/client point of view i think it's great.
advantage : low cost, large amount of ideas from different perspectives
disadvantage : less engagement with the designer so perhaps
involvement, perhaps designers are losing out as a whole, some
hazyness regarding reuse of the design if licensed from say
iStockphoto - see the twitter example, twitter purchased their birdie
pic for $6 but anyone can still buy it (as far as i'm aware)
