OS X 10.4.11
iPhone 3gs 32gig (3 days old)
Macbook Pro 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Issue:
- out of the blue my MBP stopped chargeing my iPhone using the usb
cable. No sync to itunes either
- using usb cable can charge from another pc and wall plug adapter is ok
- usb drive works on usb port on MBP
Did a bit of digging and managed to solve this.
iTunes and usbmuxd:
This is a bit of software (also called a daemon in UNIX terms) that
runs on Mac OS X (a flavour of UNIX) to sync iTunes with your iPhone
and can be found here
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/Resources/usbmuxd
Solution (for me):
- Go into your settings then into System > Accounts
- under your account select 'Log in Items'
- tick the checkbox next to iTunes
- Shut down MBP and remove the battery and power adaptor
- Reconnect battery and power adaptor to MBP and reboot
- reconnect your iphone
iTunes should load automatically and the iPhone charge from the usb
port and resync again. It did for me.
I think it has something to do with the system starting the OS and
iTunes at the same time (which in turn starts up the usbmuxd deamon)
causes a problem. Starting the system first and then iTunes once the
system is all started seems to resolve the issue.
Hope this helps.
