At UCL we did a pilot portal project with uPortal. It is difficult to  
work with, especially for customisations and integration with things  
like Shibboleth. On the other hand, surveying the HE sector, we didnt  
find much that was better. It does adhere to JSR-168, which if you  
have a bunch of java programmers makes life easier, but if you dont  
its tricky.
