You may want to look up how stable their government has been over the

You don't vote for any Prime Minister. You vote for an MP. One of those
MPs is going to be Prime Minister. If you didn't know that Gordon Brown
was the heir-apparent in 2005, you clearly weren't paying attention and
have no right to complain now.
