OpenTech is on Saturday. Well worth it if you can make it to London.
They've still got pre-bookable spaces available

From: OpenTech 2009 <sams at ukuug.org>

The schedule is up subject to final changes
       http://www.ukuug.org/events/opentech2009/schedule
We still have prebookable places left, so it's not too late for
friends to join you for the day. We'll close pre-registration on
Friday morning.

You should expect that there will be no wifi in the rooms themselves,
although we are hoping to provide some wifi in the workshop room so
that those wishing to work on projects have connectivity. You might
want to think about leaving the laptop at home. The conference is as
much about conversations in corridors as it is speeches by speakers,
and you'll miss interesting items if you're just typing in a terminal.

You will probably want to spend 4 minutes reading this from Russell Davies.
OpenTech's in a couple of days, and you'll want to read this before hand,
not afterwards:
       http://russelldavies.typepad.com/planning/2009/07/100-hours.html

The second session is now a bit wider, Tom Steinberg (mySociety), Tom
Loosemore (4iP, previously many other places), Louise Ferguson (Open
Rights Group and more) and the Space Hijacker(s), will talk for a
minute or 2 on what they've done, and then will have an extended Q&A
discussion where you can present their constructive group based ideas
for poking bureaucracy or Establishment with the internet engagement and
transparency stick.

[ As an aside, your friendly OpenTech Organisers are
currently running one such project called PublicExperience.com
which solicits your feedback on public services. If you
have any ideas on how your dealing with public services
could be better, submit them to PublicExperience.com . thanks ]

As at previous OpenTech events, on entry you'll get a sticker on
which to write your name. You can also write on your interests or
anything else that you'd like people to see when talking to them,
without you having to tell everyone :)

We'll also have a load of copies of Kevin Kelly's Internet
Mapping project templates. What does the Internet look like
to you? We'll gather them up, scan them online, and send
them all to Kevin Kelly for his collection. All those who
submit an entry will be entered in a prize draw for free
books from the O'Reilly stall. For more on the project, see
       http://www.kk.org/ct2/2009/06/the-internet-mapping-project.php
Please note, that the maps are anonymous, so you will need
to leave your name separately for entry (whether you give us
your internet map or not). Only people who preregistered
for OpenTech will be eligible to win the prize - although
anyone can submit as many maps as they like.

If you take photos and post them to flickr, please use the tag opentech.
If you post them to facebook, please post them to the OpenTech event
so we can find them (the event is linked from the OpenTech website).
After OpenTech is over, if you have any comments on OpenTech, please just
reply to this email to let us know.

Also this year, we're offering a chance for groups who are at or around
OpenTech who are looking for people with various skillsets to publish
what they're up to, and what they need, in case anyone from the OpenTech
community fancies helping them out.if you're a group, see this page to
give us your details:
       http://www.ukuug.org/opentech/friends
We'll put posters up on the day, and publish the list to the website
next week.

Confirmed academic email addresses get free entry subject to some ID.

See you on Saturday.

Regards
Sam and Emily
