Please do listen to the negativity. This list is about sharing
experience, not hiding facts... and it was also Computer People that I
was with. Sorry, I wasn't going to mention that, but... I'm sure
they've changed recently. At that time, they wouldn't declare their
margins because they didn't want to negotiate them (2005/6) - but a
letter with my rates was mistakenly delivered to me instead of my boss
after a year and a half. Fortunately my client paid the release fee
for me to freelance directly when I said I wouldn't go through them,
and I've not looked back since.
It wasn't you of course, so don't take this as a personal attack. In
fact, my agent has left the company and set up his own. So I recommend
not going with his! But seriously... I don't know a whole lot of
people who talk positively about their agents/agencies, and I know a
whole lot of freelancers who don't use them and are very happy about it.
