Hi
Happy new year.
A bit off-topic, sorry.
Just speccing a new PC (at last) and I'm torn between an intel and amd cpu.
Has anyone built with either or both recently? Has anyone (just cos they
knew I'd be asking, bought both and benchmarked them).
The two I'm looking at are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Retail AM2) (65 quid ish)
and
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200, 2.50GHz, 2MB Cache, (Retail, 775) 60/70 quid.
On the face of it the AMd looks faster but what with the newer design of
the intel (I'm just reading about it and not taking it all in) and bus
speeds and stuff the intel may come out faster??? I generally go for AMDs
but this time am wondering whether or not I should go for an intel. Dell
are raising prices by 25% (educational prices anyway) shortly so am
wondering if this is the start of a general increase in prices so should
order soon.
I won't lie to you, I may play games but generally this is for a home PC
doing webby stuff and some crap home movies for the nannies' of the kids.
It'll probably be running vista or XP and ubuntu ( or all three just to be
greedy).
