I don't think it is lost - currently airside airport staff are to be
made to carry them (which I think is particularly odd, as if they are
a risk something needs to be done NOW! and if they aren't then new ID
cards are pointless)...

I thought the interesting bit was that the card readers don't even
*exist* yet, and the company that would design/make them hasn't
decided whether it will be worthwhile to do or not !.

Our poor poor wallets...
