My twopence ...
I had the LASIK surgery back in 2001 at Optimax in Finchley. The procedure
was pretty much as has been described here. Although they do give you a
valium beforehand it's best not to think about it too much. I had mine done
one at a time which I don't think they do anymore but even if they do I'd
suggest having them done together as you don't want to know what to expect
for the second op.
I was very shortsighted before so it felt really amazing to be able to see
without my glasses. The pain didn't last longer than the day the procedure
was done and by the next evening I could see without my glasses.
Unfortunately I'm now back on specs and contact lenses as my eyesight has
again deteriorated, essentially the treatment reset the clock but my
shortsightedness is progressive so it just continues to get worse.
Apparently nowadays they ask to see your last three prescriptions and will
only treat you if there has been no change.
I'm really, really glad I had the treatment as at least I got to experience
about 3 years before I needed to wear glasses again. I would definitely
recommend it.
