Yes mate, I had it done about 3 years ago.

Quite frankly the greatest gift I've ever given myself. Bloody marvellous.

I went in to the clinic one sunny Friday afternoon, they anaesthetised my
eyes, zapped one then the other, after 30 minutes of sitting in the waiting
room with some shades on, I could see car number plates 100 meters down the
road.

Within 3 hours I could see complete fine (although I was still a bit
sensitive to light) and by the time I got up the next morning it was as if
I'd had perfect eyesight all my life.

Having said that the actual surgery part of it was the most surreal
experience I've ever had... and I did quite a bit of acid in my youth ;-)
In fact what Toby's friend described below is the standard procedure, not a
cock up at all.

I know quite a few people who've had it done and only ever come across one
person who had any kind of nightmare with it... and they went for the
cheapest option! 
So I say go for it but don't skimp on the cost, it's your eyes... which are
bloody useful in life aren't they so you don't want to f**k em up!

Eeek.

A friend of mine had it done, and said it was the most traumatic thing that
ever happened to him.
I think they cocked it up, and there were stories of people peeling off
layers of his eyeballs whilst he was awake, along with other ocular related
hideousness.

I'm sure it's fine for most people, and he was an exception, but after
hearing his tale of woe, I'd never get it done.
