as someone who's been caught out by visa problems in the past [a long
story involving handcuffs, deportation and other delightfully inhumane
treatment by the 'department of homeland security'] i'd advise you
make sure you're appropriately prepared.
ideally you want a h1b1 as tom rightly pointed out, but this is tricky
to get unless the employer is willing to 'sponsor' your visa - this
means they must legally take responsibility for you while in the US
and guarantee employment for the duration of the visa. whatever you
do, don't try working on a visa waiver or very*bad*things can happen
if you get caught...
