Yep can be a problem with SEs, as you end up with duplicate material in the
index and link equity split between the two versions. They are dealing with
this better now but you never know when things will change again (i.e. the
302 hijack problem keeps coming back!) Better not to leave this to the
engines to resolve and set it yourself.
As someone said above, set up an mod_rewrite rule to select the version you
want. To be especially sure also set this in the Webmaster Tools section at
the various engines. They all have that option now - that's probably the
biggest indicator it should be set.
