Poppycock!

Support both domains with a simple htaccess change:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.mysite\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://mysite.com/$1 [R=301,L]

For your IT team:

1) When giving out a domain - do you proceed it with WWW?
2) Do you realise that WWW is actually longer to say that World Wide Web,
given it's 9 (damn) syllables long!
3) Pronouncing it 'dub-dub-dub' makes you sound like you probably shouldn't
be managing servers.
4) Bottom line is you should support both, but redirect on to a single
version either www. or not (but without makes more sense).

That's my tuppence worth, plus, I got to use 'poppycock' in an email!
