So long as the focus is communication, by people who understand 
deep-framing etc. My involvement with FOE was largely an exercise in 
quiet frustration because so many of the more vocal people were 
walking-talking communication-own-goals. Unbefuckinglievable some of them.

Mind you, given the current climate I think people are probably going to 
have more sympathy for a Unix guru with a beard who lives in the 
basement than some sort of shiny person in a suit. As Tom pointed out 
though (kindof), if they/we aren't going to listen to the former heads 
of MI5 re: security, why would they listen to a computer expert about 
computers? Especially as for about 20k a year you can buy your own 
expert to say whatever the hell you please? We are a commodity alas.

As an aside, I'm not sure that the "mature debate" over nuke-power that 
Tony Blair talked about ever happened either. I'll never vote Tory, but 
these people really do need to have some... I don't know, respect? 
kicked into them.
