I'm not sure that's true. The Today prog is littered with Tristan 
Farley-Biscuit-Barrells who run specialist web sites (e.g. this 
morning's one was talking about graduate recruitment), so becoming the 
specialist expert group in the anti-ID card battle could be very 
powerful in getting across the otherwise 
hard-for-most-people-to-understand technological reasons for not having 
them.
