I absolutely agree with you! (Just in case my request for clarification
gets mistaken for agreement with ID cards)
On the subject of setting up a new pressure group vs. joining the
existing ones, I was wondering if it wouldn't be the case that more
organisations would have a greater effect (notwithstanding the obvious
parallels to the Peoples' Front of Judea, The Judean Peoples' Front,
etc)? The existing groups are battling on the wide range of reasons as
to why ID cards are a Bad Thing, e.g. social, moral etc., but a highly
focussed group, which spoke only about the technological issues, would
give greater volume the their specific subject. If you were in
government (I do still naively think they hear what people say) or in
the meeja, rather than go to the pressure group that opposes from all
sides, the one that has a specific specialism could be especially useful
and send a powerful message to people who don't understand these things.
Cripes, you could even get on the Jeremy F*cking Vine show!
