Without actually having used a WP ecommerce plugin I'd say that I wouldn't
consider going that route. I've never seen a plugin that effectively
handles all the elements of an ecommerce store (shipping tables, tax,
payment gateways, inventory, product variations, promotions etc. etc...).
I'd run a separate specialised system alongside it personally to preempt the
likelihood of running into a headache somewhere down the line with a
plugin. For simple things something like Cubecart or Tradingeye would be
worth looking at. A step up from those would be Magento.
