Arh...

Well I got round that by setting up a goal for the regex url
'/download/.*'... Then using this JS:

onclick="urchinTracker('/download/'+this.href.replace('http://', ''));"

i.e. it would register http://www.mydomain.com/blar.pdf as
/download/www.mydomain.com/blar.pdf

There probably is a better way involving triggering the goal directly though....
