busted shoulders - I heartily recommend Amanda Howard at the Hove office of
the Brighton Physiotherapy Clinic (http://www.brightonphysio.co.uk/) on
01273 272862. Amongst other things she lectures internationally on shoulder
and knee injuries, she's great for back/neck issues too. The ultrasound
diagnostic device (as used by mums-to-be to see their unborn babies) is
great to see how your muscles are working (or not) under your skin.

I've been using the clinic on and off for years - for back, shoulder, neck
and running injuries. Prior to them I tried all sorts of osteo, physio,
chiro and 'other' treatments, some worked, most didn't.

As always, get yourself the most experienced therapist, don't skimp on cost
by getting the newbie. Personally I avoid any form of treatment that
doesn't have the weight of solid scientific evidence behind it (but some do
seem to benefit from acupuncture etc, YMMV). If your therapist or therapy
isn't working for you, don't be afraid to move on.

Your best bet is to avoid getting hurt in the first place - spend proper
money on a good chair (my new Aeron is a fab investment), lose the mouse (I
use a Marble Mouse trackball now - fab), get a lower back support, take
frequent screen breaks (every 15-30 mins?), stretch (2-3 times a day), do
exercise (few times a week). Do not 'work through the pain' as Nat says,
your muscles just get tighter and more painful and require more treatment.

As a final note - if you leave stuff like back pain until you can't bare the
pain any more, expect 3 months+ of treatment and expect to be in a lot of
pain for chunks of those 3 months, with little motivation to work, feeling
sorry for yourself. Don't leave it, get it sorted earlier. Says he of much
(painful) experience.

And yes - Amanda cured my shoulders and upper back issues, she's fab.

Merry crimbo everyone!
Ian.
