AFAIK it all ends up in landfill anyway. Technically anything you chuck down
there - toilet roll, ear buds, goldfish - will have to be filtered/fished
out and carted off for disposal. If you live near the coast I suppose
sometimes it ends up in the sea. 

I once visited a beautiful Italian beach. It was half sand, half
multicoloured plastic ear bud stems. I felt sick for days.
