[BNM] VMware and Ubuntu/FC 8 keyboard rubbishness

Had real problems on my dual boot Xp/ubuntu PC. Updated from 7.04 to 7.10 and found that the ps2 keyboard didn't work. The mouse did. Tried a USB keyboard but no. Asked colleagues for Ununtu CDs as I thought the update CD was corrupt.

In the end I fiddled with the USB settings and set the USB legacy to enabled. Also removed a USB hub (allowing usb connections on the side of my monitor) and all fine.

Probably not entirely related to your VMware problem but I'm guessing that something weird has happened with Ununtu in recent updates. Or rather I probably should update my bios.

Have you looked at the VMware bios and messed with that?

Your problems sound more key specific than keyboard so this may not have helped at all.

I'm just happy I solved my problem and wanted to tell the world.

The C key and X key on my keyboard don't always work but I've tracked this down to kids dribbling all over it. Last year the floppy disk drive oozed a yellow cat-wee smelling liquid. It turned out to be the neighbour's cat coming in at night and pissing up my computer to mark his place. My cats are terrified of him.
