Absolutely - similar thing with Tasers (which various groups in NZ have 
such hard-ons for they can barely walk)

When aspects of the pre-trial process become punishments in their own 
right (like putting someone in prison for over a month) then the legal 
process is broken. It is absolutely not up to the police to inflict 
punishment.

This is just a reaction from a govt that's a bit scared of looking weak 
on terrorism. If Maggie didn't need it even after she walked out of a 
blown up building, then Gordon Brown doesn't either.
