AKAIK there will still be a free version 8.0 available. They are just
turning off the 7.X series.

The problem people are complaining about is the bloat up in v. 8.0. It's
a
full spyware/anti-virus/internet downloading/email/instant messaging
protection etc. package (similar to Norton approach it seems). That has
caused conflict with their other 'stand-alone' programs and annoyed
people.

I've heard Avast mentioned as an alternative.
