[BNM] Joomla Learning Curve & Joomla eCommerce extension advice...

Hi all,
I'm about to dip my toes into Joomla with an idea to creating a CMS and 
an eCommerce site. I know I have a steep learning curve so thought I'd 
ask if there was a general consensus on the *best* eCommerce extension 
and if poss any tips on what to do and what not to do to start learning 
Joomla...
