[BNM] [OT] Phone company tactics

Hi all

I know there's occasional phone talk on this list, but I'm coming to the
end of my first contract (O2. Always was PAYG up until the start of this
contract) and am gonna start looking around and hopefully negotiating a
better deal.

So I spoke to O2 today, telling them that I was going to be shopping
around so what could they offer me, but the monkey I spoke to wasn't
really interested in offering anything tempting beyond what is offered
on their website. Neither was the guy I spoke to at T-Mobile. I've yet
to speak to the likes of Vodafone, Orange. Are 3 or Virgin any cop?

Stuff that's important to me -

UK based, decent customer service (apart from today's lack of
enthusiasm, O2 have been good over the last 12 months)

Free, usable phone, with wi-fi access, good battery life and a decent
sized screen for internet browsing. N95 maybe? Any other
recommendations?

Internet package, hence my interest in T-Mobile / Web n Walk.

Is there any benefit in going in to the high street shops, apart from
actually being able to see and handle the phones? Are the sales guys in
there able to cut better deals?

Any advice or tips on getting a better deal out of them would be greatly
appreciated.

Grant
