We have a lot of Thinkpads too, running Windows 2000. It is a nightmare,
to say the least, getting wireless to play nice. As others have said, the
rest of the hardware is pure gold (our only issues come with w2k drivers
for newer hardware on T43/60/61 machines) but ThinkVantage should be
purged as soon as you get your grubby mitts on the machine*. Hardware =
good, software = bad. Go for a vanilla copy of XP on them and you're
laughing.

* I particularly like how the ThinkVantage 'smart' recognition thinks that
our ethernet network here is The Standard in LA's free wireless
connection!
