This is something from the website for i360 - comparing the old and new
"vertical" pier...

The two elements have much in common:

   - both are designed by visionaries possessing solid practical track
   records
   - both are at the leading edge of the innovative engineering and
   materials science of their day
   - both enhance the same public benefit of enabling people to
experience the air, views and ambience of the English seaside
   - both reflect the vibrancy and confidence of the town and city of
   their day
   - both stem from and rely upon private sector enterprise.

I find it depressing in so many ways...

as well as this

"[the trust is]...determined to seek private sector funding and a solution
that would combine preservation of the heritage of the pier with the
creation of heritage for the future; and which would be of public benefit
and civic pride...". They've clearly gotten carried away with their own myth
creation.

Perhaps, though, from the top - at least you'll be able to see the Tescos in
France.
