[BNM] few photoshop questions

I am not a photoshop person really - I have the adobe course in a book, but
haven't had time to read it!
But I did find (having searched for 'paste as new image' which is what I was
used to), that if you do 'new' while you have an image on the clipboard, it
defaults to size of the image on the clip board.
I also do the crop - optimise - step/back.. thing -- a bit of a pain,
particularly as ^z isn't good enough to do the 'undo' - I end up with loads
of stuff open and when it all gets too slow just close them all (making
absolutely sure I have saved as I go, so I can click "don't save" all the
way throught and don't have to work out what does and doesn't need saving).
