The next £5 App event is next week - for those who don't know the event
celebrates people who get off their backside and 'make something interesting
happen *without* £50 million Venture-capital investment'.
Our Christmas Special focuses on the games industry - we have 1 talk and 5
interesting demos of 'games related neatness'. The event is free, sponsored
by http://ribot.co.uk and is populated by many of Brighton's more sociable
programmers, freelancers, designers and business-founders.
The night is Weds 10th December 8-10pm, the programme is detailed here:
http://ianozsvald.com/2008/12/01/5-app-xmas-special-listing-details/
which boils down to the main talk:
Aleks Krotoski, Guardian Games Blogger, launches the game SpaceShip! which
has been developed over the last 3 months by her blogging community
and five 10-minute demos:
1. Lightsaber mobile phone duelling by Marko (Lastminute.com Labs)
2. Fighting Mini-sumo robots by Emily
3. In-development 3D iPhone game + backstory by Dominic Mason
4. Flash 3D Snow, Xmas games and Augmented Reality (some or all!) by Seb
(PluginMedia)
5. Eye-controlled Pong by Ben Rubinstein (CogApp)
The event is lighthearted, social and relaxed, we're expecting 40-50 to
attend. Drinking our special Mulled-wine is optional but encouraged, eating
the mince pies and specially-baked-cake is also encouraged. We tend to move
to a local pub after for continued chat and drinks.
Details of the past 13 events and pictures (which give an idea of how
informal it can be) are on our main site:
http://fivepoundapp.com/
Please do mark your intention to attend on Upcoming (linked via my blog) or
by leaving a comment on my blog entry - we judge beer-buying and cake-baking
numbers by those who have marked themselves up.
