Hi,
remember to run mysql_upgrade after you copy the mysql files into the
new environment (before you start mysqld) as the file format changed
between mysql 5.0 and 5.1 and you would cause data corruption if you
did not run the conversion utlility
.
You should use mysql_hotcopy to backup the files, instead of
mysql_dump, or it will take you hours to restore it :P
All the method proposed for copying are valid, just make sure you use
something that keeps the permissions as well, otherwise you will have
to do a lot of work to put the right permissions back :P
