Thanks Olly, I'll look into rsync.

As for the mysql, i was thinking about the /data directory too.  Would it
matter if the mysql versions were slightly different (old is 5.0.22, new is
5.1.30).

Possibility: Hook the existing hdd up to the new machine either internally
> or with a usb > sata/ide adapter, and copy the files across. Always worked
> for me in the past and is very quick.


Unfortunately the server is up in Telehouse so I cant really do this, shame
really as its probably the easiest option.
