Thanks for replying. Navicat looks good and I think there's a 30 day demo which'll do me!

It's about 4000 records with international characters; this isn't the problem.

The problem is that it's been created in Excel, the data in places is two merged cells. There are commas where there should be semi colons and not all of the text is enclosed in speech marks (i.e. where for example there are commas). 

It's really messy data and in the past I've gone through it error by error but I'd quite like something to at least shove the data in that is OK and report/return the rest so at least I can say "I did this but you've got to fix this".
