[BNM] Basic wordpress installation help needed.

I have a wordpress question that is no doubt a no brainer to the more techie
amongst you, but is becoming trying to me!  I'm trying to install wordpress
and have downloaded and unzipped it and have changed the wp-config-sample
name to wp-config.  You then have to change certain details - enter the name
of the database and enter a MySQL user name and password.  This is where I'm
coming a cropper, as I'm not really sure what this means...  I'm using my
friend's hosting and he has sent me some details that I know I can use to
transfer files via ftp, but are these the same details that I need to enter
into this wordpress file?  Or, can I create a new username and password for
this?

I'd appreciate your help with this, or if anyone is at the Werks, Thursday
or Friday and would like to give me some face to face help, I'd be very
grateful.
