After you pass a certain age you have to fund yourself - I had to work full time while at full time college for 4 years!! It should be a birth right considering how much we/our parents have paid in taxes throughout our lives.

You may have asked already but I think there's normally someone at the college who is responsible for pointing people in the right direction for things like this. A quick Google-ing came back with this: http://tinyurl.com/32ldho

Good luck to her - it'd be more than worth doing :)

Subject: [BNM] [OT] University funding for single mums

Hi Listers

Does anyone know of any bodies/strategies to get funding to do a degree as a
single parent? My girlfriend has got a university place but has been told
that she has to pay all her tuition/admin fees for the first term/year
amounting to about £1600, which she simply doesn't have. She hasn't been to
university before - maybe i'm hopelessly naive but i thought higher
education was free?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Mike
