For video - I've not tried it but screencasting
software should do the job.
CamStudio is GPL and works on XP (and Vista under
compatibility mode, apparently):
http://camstudio.org/
and I have some videos here showing how to install and
use it:
http://showmedo.com/videos/series?name=camstudioSeries
along with CamStudio 2.0 downloads (*avoid* v2.1 if
you come across it, it is a crippled commercial
version put about on the web).
CamStudio is the recommended tool for Windows at
ShowMeDo, I use it frequently.
There's also HyperCam, cheap shareware at:
http://www.hyperionics.com/
I've used this in the past, the free version adds a
little watermark, works on XP and Vista.
How to capture the audio? I don't think either tool
will capture the speaker-out as a mic-in source of
sound, but you could wire up a mic by your speaker and
record it that way.
There are probably better ways of forcing the speaker
back into the mic stream...anyone else?
Re. codecs - You'll have to experiment, presumably you
want an AVI or a MOV using a built-in codec. If
nothing jumps out at you then mail me off-list and
I'll see if I can give you a hand.
Cheers,
Ian.
