[BNM] copyright

Its been at least a month - we're overdue for a legal question !

A few years ago our company developed a bespoke web-based solution for a
local firm that used that solution to deliver on a contract with a big
london .org

Recently the local firm has lost the contract they had to another firm,
who now ring us and say we have to give them the source code for the
web-based app we developed. That the london .org owns the intellectual
copyright to the bespoke app - and , therefore, as they now have the
contract with the .org, the solution we developed belongs to them.

I said thats not the case. That we own the intellectual copyright to the
app, since we developed it - and that we had sold a license to the
original local firm to use it.

Regardless of what the local firm we sold it to said to the .org, it was
not theirs to sell.

I have suggested to the new firm with the .org contract that either them
or the .org need to contact us to discuss purchasing a license to use
the app.

Anyone shed light ?

Joe
