Take the ferry from Downtown to Staten Island in the early evening - amazing
views of Manhattan and Statue of Liberty across the water. It's free - don't
actually spend any time on Staten Island as there's nothing particularly
special there -  get the return ferry back to Manhattan.

Walk over Brooklyn Bridge. Hang out in Brooklyn Heights to get a feel of a
proper Brooklyn neighbourhood.

If you're adventurous, go to BRIGHTON BEACH in Brooklyn !! It's a one hour
metro journey (fixed price) - it's a very interesting Russian neighbourhood.
Has a great sandy beach.

Walk around the alphabet avenues (a, b, c) in Manhattan - a very interesting
and "uber-cool" neighbourhood.

Wrap up warm as it can be freezing over there. Have a good trip.
