Well it’s not so much staying sober as managing to make it through the
evening intact. Russians have _very_ long parties and social events. As I
said before, a Russian wedding is a 2 day event starting in the morning(s).
The usual planning is 1 ½ bottles of vodka per person, at a wedding you’d
make that 3-4 plus beer/champagne and wine.

You joke but it’s common place to see Russian businessmen on the way to work
in the morning with a beer! If you sign a business contract with someone
here it usually involves a drink. If you buy anything, Russian tradition
says you need to drink for it (for luck). You have to learn a few tricks to
avoid the booze here. Christmas and New Year are a two week national holiday
which truly scares me ;)
