I say seek out a cheap-ish ATI Radeon. I've got a many-moons-old
Radeon 7000 that was detected on installation (of the OS) and works
pretty well on Ubuntu with it's wibbly windows and transparency
business.

Having said that, do you specifically need a PCIe card?
