[BNM] Paypal Payments Pro - custom integration

I am spec'ing a system that requires the paypal "pro" system - this 
seems to be a web service-based system that requires the installation of 
some paypal code (an API...) on the host web server to handle some of 
the payment process steps.  On the paypal site, they state :

"Custom integration. Integrating Website Payments Pro without a 
PayPal-compatible pre-integrated shopping cart requires programming 
expertise and takes a minimum of 20 days. To continue with a custom 
integration, go to our Technical Overview

for Website Payments Pro."

-- 20 days?  I have a day in mind...is that feasible? Has anyone gone 
through a custom installation?

Additionally, as far as I can tell, this system doesn't required SSL on 
the host web server - I assume the sensitive transmissions are handled 
via AJAX over SSL, directly from the client browser to the paypal 
payment server.  Is that right?
