[BNM] Can't build a web site

Well I can, but not in any sense that a web 
designer would recognise.

Having spent some time creating various 
versions of a site for myself - to promote my 
services and books - I hate all of them.

So I wonder if there's a genuine alternative 
to struggling on? I'm geeky enough to want to 
put something together myself (and I can't 
afford to pay anyone) but perhaps there's a 
slightly more ready-made answer? I'm happy 
with Blogger for my blog and have wandered 
round Wordpress (don't think it would work) 
and Terapad (despite initial high hopes I 
couldn't work out the interface).

Are there any other free tools/services I 
should look at?
