[BNM] Email DNS woe / Google hosted service

Heeeeey YO!

I set my friend up with the Google for your domain scenario, I have used if
for others and myself and it's rock solid.
Well, I thought it was until I emailed him today and got a bounce-back -
part of the details say this:

Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: DNS Error: Domain name not found


Is this a problem with Google or with the domain name providers?
(I suspect the latter)
I phoned him and he said some people can email fine and some can't... wa a
gwan?
