Make sure you check they're not still billing you. I was in the same
situation last year and it took about four months and half a dozen phone
calls to get them to stop, and even then it was only after I cancelled the
direct debit and received a bailiff's letter!
I spoke to their home movers dept., gave them the requisite notice along
with my future address, yet it was as if I'd never called them. They carried
on sending bills to the old address, and after a further phone call to
remedy the situation, they carried on billing me, just at the new *uncabled*
address (which was some garbled version of what I'd *spelled out* for them
over the phone)! They still saw fit to send the guy picking up our set-top
box to the old address, though.
A further phone call and they continued sending bills, so I cancelled the
direct debit. A month later I got a returned bill followed by a bailiff's
letter. A couple of over-an-hour-long on-hold-for-an-eternity phone calls
later, and they finally cancelled my 'debt'. They couldn't understand why
they owed *me* money, though -- I'd over-paid bills for the period after my
cancellation, which I've never gotten back.
Apologies for the rant. Long story shot -- NTL are bastards.
