Hi BNM,
Got a bit of problem at the office here, we work right near a train station
and there is bridge over the train tracks the runs along the back of our car
park.
We've noticed some of the cars parked in the car park are getting damaged
from kid crossing the bridge and throwing stuff over the edge at the cars.
Work have asked me to investigate the possiblity of using a web cam to
monitor the car park. I did once set up a motion tracking web camera that
recorded any motion in a certain area between certains times and this
appears to qualify me as a survaliance expert.
The main factor is cost company don't wanna spend alot (basically any) on
equipment so far i've found this on ebay.

and this at maplin

I think i'm gonna struggle to get the money for the maplin job out of them
so i was wondering if someone on the list could give me an idea of what sort
of performance difference i'd get out of the two and whether it is actually
worth the *10 expense.
We'd be mounting it inside through a skylite that overlooks the car park.
The car park is basically two rows of 10 spaces with room for two cars to
pass between the rows, so its not huge. Its got a street light at one end
and the station actually does a pretty good job of illuminating the rest of
it so its not pitch black during the night. We actually think the kids might
be doing the damage on their way home from school so it might not even need
night time ability just a gloomy 4 o'clock. There arent really any cars
actually staying in the car park over night so it would be protection from
about 7am - 7pm.
I've no idea about this sort of stuff, would the USB Black Knight even be
capable of offering us anything... ?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Simon
p.s. wasnt sure if this was OT or not so left it
