I hope I didn't offend too much, I was more dead curious how that code happened than anything else. Thanks for the explanation :)

Subject: [BNM] timesonline - a css travesty?

Hi all,

Yes it is a mess, the company who produced the site on behalf of News
International, is Sapient, their UK offices in Canary Wharf.

I was a contractor for the initial build of the templates for about 6 weeks
in August 2006,

There was documentation in place for standards, but I think the more people
that got their hands into the code it went downhill.

As far as I can understand the pages went across to Sapient India, to go
into a CMS, the whole site was tendered to go to India, but they couldnt
find any suitable front end developers.

The agile development of this site probably didn't do the code many favours,
as old code was left in, even code that didnt work was left in.. etc..etc..

There were quite a few structural/management changes within the News
International teams which may have led to more conflicts of opinion, leading
to more changes in code.

I had an interesting time there, working with IA's and Designers, however
probably down to the strict deadlines, the legacy of all the bugs and hacks
has gone live as well..

regards,

Jim Callender
