Hello,
You could start with a 3d game(s) engine. I think if you search wikipedia
for 3d game(s) engine then there's a mention of lots including some free
ones. I think either quakeII DoomII (not sure which) game engine is
available for free. Torque 3d looked OK but not free.
There's a few engines which are cross platform (e.g. mac/PC or ,ac/linux
or pc/linux) and use C++ amd opengl. There's a few that use c# and open gl.
I've (sorry) been looking at the XNA Game studio which is restricted to PC
and Xbox (i know sorry). i don't have an Xbox but the software to get going
is free (vis studio express and Xna stuff). It doesn't use opengl though.
I think andrew Lamothe (lemothe) has written some books on this and they're
not so new now but they do mention c++ and opengl and also the maths
involved. good to get a good book on maths/matrices (3d
scaling/rotation/translations) to get your head round some of it.
There's also a new part-time/full time Bsc in Games programming at Brighton
Uni.
Jason
