Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I called the activation line last night, and I have to say I was
pleasantly surprised by the process. I still resent having to prove
that I'm not a software pirate, but I've had far more traumatising
series of phone calls over the last year (*cough* NTL *cough*).

I was expecting to have to plead my case to a customer services bod,
but instead I sucessfully re-activated completely through the
automated process. I just had to tap in an installation number (48
digits long, but entered six digits at a time) and answer a few
questions with my touchtone keypad before my activation request was
accepted. Then it was just a case of entering a confirmation number on
the PC. There was always the option to correct mistakes or repeat
information I'd missed, which is unusually helpful!
