[BNM] Windows XP Re-activation

Does anyone have any experience with re-activating Windows after an upgrade?

I've just replaced a faulty motherboard for someone and now Windows is
kicking up a fuss. The Internet activation is telling me the license
number on the case sticker is invalid, so I'm going to have to give
the big M$ a ring later.

The PC is an HP Pavilion, so I'm worried they're going to refuse as
it'll be an OEM licence. Anyone had any success after a similar
experience, or is purchasing a new licence going to be the only way to
'enjoy the full Windows experience' (i.e. being able to log in)?
